Alexander Litvinov

Artist biography

In 1980 graduated from the Tallinn Art Academy, majoring in sculpture.

Until 1990 worked in different styles: realism, constructivism, and conceptualism. During this period wood was the main craft material.

Since 1990 has started to work with mini-plastic, where animals became the theme of choice, while bronze became the favoured material. In the beginning, the artist used a realistic approach: anatomy, proportion, movement, but afterwards the style began to evolve into signs, archetype symbols. Animals became one of the ways to take an unusual look at humans. Currently animals are the favourite theme of Alexander.

Over the years, a long list of achievements and awards have been presented to the sculptor across different disciplines (sculpture, mini-plastic) and countries (Estonia, Poland, Sweden, Russia, and France).

• 1998 – 1st place, 1st Baltic festival of animalist-sculptors
• 2002 – 3 Baltic festival of animalist-sculptors
• 2004 – 2nd place, 4th Baltic festival of animalist-sculptors
• 2010 – Grand Prix, International M.C.A, Cannes, France
• 2011 – Grand Prix, Aleksiy II monument competition, Tallinn
